KWRL Babe Ruth 15s eliminated

KWRL was eliminated from the Southern Washington 15-year-old Babe Ruth tournament in Pasco, with an 11-10 loss to Kennewick on Thursday. No details were reported.

The team of players from Kalama, Woodland, Ridgefield and La Center won its earlier game, 6-4, over Longview. Carl Russell struck out eight in six innings, and Hunter Raney was 2 for 3 with three runs scored.

14-year-old Babe Ruth — KWRL will play a semifinal game today at the Southern Washington tournament in Hoquiam. KWRL completed a 3-0 pool-play run on Thursday with a 7-6 win over Kennewick, rallying from an early 6-1 deficit and scoring the winning run in the bottom of the seventh.

Drake Estes held Kennewick scoreless over the last four innings. Kevin Miser went 3 for 4 with two RBI to pace the offense.

KWRL will play at 4 p.m. Friday. A win puts it in the championship game on Saturday morning.

9-10 softball — Soundview eliminated Columbia on Thursday, defeating the Vancouver team 6-3 in a loser-out game at the state tournament in La Center. South Snohomish clinched a spot in Saturday’s championship game by beating Gig Harbor 7-1. Gig Harbor and Soundview play at 6 p.m. Friday with the winner facing South Snohomish for the championship.
