Youth ball roundup: Hazel Dell Metro 13s reach state title game

The Hazel Dell Metro 13-year-old baseball all-stars advanced to the championship game of the Southern Washington state tournament with a 6-5 win over Twin Cities on Saturday in Longview.

Details of the game were not reported.

Hazel Dell Metro will play at 10 a.m. today for the title against Longview, which beat Kelso 10-9 in eight innings.

The winner of the Southern Washington tournament advances to the Pacific Northwest Regional at Centralia beginning July 29.

18-year-old Babe Ruth — KWRL opened pool play at the state tournament in Aberdeen with a 2-1 victory over Competitive Athletics.

Trevor Huddleston struck out five in 61/3 innings for the win, and Jamison Benitez got the final two outs for the save.

Nick Martin drove in both KRWL runs, going 2 for 3. Sam Gillenwater was also 2 for 3 with a double and scored both runs.

KRWL plays again at 1 p.m. today.

Major (11-12) baseball — Eastlake Little League of Sammamish defeated Queen Anne 6-3 on Saturday to advance to the state championship game at Luke Jensen Park in Vancouver.

Eastlake will face unbeaten Federal Way at 1 p.m. today. If Eastlake wins, the same two teams will play again at 4 p.m. to decide the title.

The winner earns a berth to the Little League Northwest Regional at San Bernardino, Calif., where that winner of that tournament will advance to the Little League World Series.

9-10 softball — South Snohomish won the state title, defeating Gig Harbor 6-3 at the La Center Community Park.
