Talking Points: Early wakeup call for Lillard

What’s the buzz from the world of sports? Here are some items that will have people talking:

1

It was an early wake-up call for Damian Lillard.

“Who else is up on this early morning in Vegas,” the Blazers guard tweeted at 6:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Such is life for those taking part in a four-day camp for Mike Krzyzewski’s Team USA.

While the rest of the NBA is resting or otherwise preparing for the upcoming season, a select group of young players is getting a taste of international basketball.

With Lillard’s precocious talent comes demands. The upside of the Team USA experience far outweighs the risk for Lillard, but Blazers fans should be wary of too many rigors being put on their young superstar.

After all, the bench-starved Blazers limped to the finish last season, losing their final 13 games.

And it’s not like injuries haven’t hounded this franchise recently.

“Practice … We’re talkin’ about practice.”

Allen Iverson might not have always taken it seriously, but Seattle Seahawks fans sure are.

All 14 sessions of the team’s training camp are sold out. The Seahawks, which open practice Thursday in Renton, will go through drills and learn plays in front of thousands of fans.

With the Seahawks a trendy pick to reach the Super Bowl, fan enthusiasm has never been higher.Ryan Braun was the first to fall.

Rumors have been swirling all season that baseball would hammer some of its best known players for their involvement in PEDs from Miami-based Biogenesis.

How many might follow is unknown, but this much is clear. Fans won’t feel baseball is making progress without a lengthy A-Rod suspension.

Fair or not, he’s viewed as the big catch in this investigation.
