TRUCKEE, Calif. (AP) — England’s Sam Horsfield routed two more opponents Thursday at Martis Camp Club to advance to the quarterfinals in the rain-delayed U.S. Junior Amateur.

The 16-year-old Horsfield beat Nick Hardy of Northbrook, Ill., 8 and 7 in the second round, and topped Mexico’s Aaron Terrazas 6 and 5 to beat darkness in the third round. On Wednesday in the first round, Horsfield pounded Dean Sakata of Diamond Bar, Calif., 7 and 6.

Horsfield will face 15-year-old John Augenstein of Owensboro, Ky., on Friday morning.

Augenstein outlasted stroke-play medalist Jim Liu, the 2010 winner from Smithtown, N.Y., in 20 holes in the second round, and edged Brian Carlson of Madison, Conn., 1 up with a 5-foot birdie putt in the third round.
