Letter: Affirm integrity of original doubts

The Columbian
Published: June 1, 2013, 5:00pm

During the original design process of the Columbia River Crossing bridge, if the U.S. Coast Guard had been involved earlier, would they have approved the final design? Probably not. So for them to say “yes” now would it compromise the reputation of integrity and independence the Coast Guard has earned with many years of public service? To give in to what appears to be partisan political pressure to OK a bridge design that questionably does not meet maritime height clearance standards? Probably yes.
