Driver dead, Portland police officer hurt in crash

PORTLAND — A head-on crash has left a motorist dead and a Portland police officer injured.

Police say the two vehicles collided late Sunday night on Northeast Portland Highway.

Police say preliminary information indicates that a vehicle crossed over the median and struck the police car head-on.

The male motorist of the vehicle was killed, while the officer was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.

The traffic division’s major crash team is investigating.
