PORTLAND — A 28-year-old man who forced teenage girls to work as prostitutes and took the money was sentenced Tuesday in federal court in Portland to 16 years in prison.

The U.S. attorney’s office says Rashad Q. Sanders pleaded guilty to sex trafficking and transporting three minors.

He was arrested in May of 2011 with a 15-year-old in his car. She was taken to a hospital and told investigators that Sanders injected her with methamphetamine and persuaded her to work for him as a prostitute.

The case was investigated by Portland police and the FBI Child Exploitation Task Force.

At the sentencing, Sanders told the judge the girls are not victims and blamed them for his situation.
