OSLO, Norway (AP) — Oslo is moving ahead with plans to bid for the 2022 Winter Olympics.

The city council voted Wednesday to ask for financial guarantees from the government, a precondition for hosting the games.

Norwegian news agency NTB says besides getting the government backing, the bid must be approved in a referendum.

Norway last hosted the Winter Olympics in 1994, when the games were held in Lillehammer.
