NEW YORK (AP) — Calidoscopio made up 22 lengths in the final half-mile, rallying in the slop to win the $200,000 Brooklyn Handicap on Friday at Belmont Park.

The distant trailer in the early stages, Calidoscopio kicked past the pacesetting Percussion for a one length victory, his first since the Breeders’ Cup Marathon last November at Santa Anita. Aaron Gryder was aboard for trainer Mike Puype as the 10-year-old from Argentina raced to his 11th win in 42 starts.

The time for the 112 miles, the same distance as Saturday’s Belmont Stakes, was 2:31.64.

Calidoscopio paid $17, $7.50 and $4.70. Percussion returned $4.90 and $3.60, and Fast Falcon paid $3.30 to show as the 3-1 favorite.

One race earlier, Souper Speedy won the $147,000 Jaipur Stakes on a disqualification. Big Screen finished first but was taken down and placed second for interference against Souper Speedy in the stretch.

Souper Speedy paid $5.10 to win the race originally scheduled for the turf until the heavy rain forced a shift to the main track.
