Civil War medicine topic of history talk

The Columbian
Published: June 6, 2013, 5:00pm

Medical care in the Civil War will be the topic of a military history talk Thursday.

The 7 p.m. presentation by Anita Fisher will be at the 40 et 8 Chateau, 7607 N.E. 26th Ave., just off 78th Street in Hazel Dell.

Fisher, a Clark College history professor, will discuss techniques and practices used by Army doctors in the Civil War. It was an era in which medical advances were taking place in Europe, but they were late in coming to Civil War battlefields.

The talk is sponsored by the Vancouver Barracks Military Association.
