MEIRINGEN, Switzerland (AP) — Peter Sagan of Slovakia has led a four-man breakaway to win the Tour of Switzerland’s fourth stage Monday, and local rider Mathias Frank leads overall.

Sagan edged out defending champion Rui Costa of Portugal and Roman Kreuziger of the Czech Republic to complete the 127.3-mile route in 4 hours, 46 minutes, 27 seconds. Frank had the same time in fourth.

Frank, riding for the Swiss-backed American team BMC Racing, climbed from third overall to lead Kreuziger by 23 seconds. Costa is third, trailing Frank by 35 seconds.

Ryder Hesjedal of Canada crashed out of the nine-day event on another rain-swept trek through the Swiss mountains. The 2012 Giro d’Italia winner started the day second overall.

The fourth stage Tuesday is a rolling 108.4-mile route from Innertkirchen to Buochs.
