LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) — Kansas coach Bill Self rounded out his staff Wednesday by promoting Brennan Bechard to director of basketball operations and appointing Fred Quartlebaum director of student-athlete development.

Bechard was a member of Self’s national championship team in 2008 and spent the past two years as an assistant director of basketball operations. He takes over for Doc Sadler, who left Kansas last month to become an assistant coach at Iowa State.

Quartlebaum has been the associate director of PACT, a leadership and mentoring program at Mercy College in New York. Before that, he spent six seasons as an assistant at St. John’s under Norm Roberts, who is now one of Self’s top assistant coaches.

Quartlebaum also has coached at Navy, Towson, Holy Cross, Notre Dame and North Carolina.
