BOSTON (AP) — The Boston Celtics selected Kelly Olynyk of Gonzaga with the No. 13 pick in the NBA draft after making a trade with the Dallas Mavericks to move up three spots.
Boston sent the No. 16 pick and two future second-rounders to the Mavericks to get the 7-footer who was fifth in voting for the Wooden Award.
Olynyk averaged 17.8 points and 7.3 rebounds while shooting 63 percent from the field while leading Gonzaga to a 32-3 season.
Olynyk would join a team with no coach that is attempting to trade its two biggest stars, Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce, to the Brooklyn Nets in a deal that would signal a major rebuilding for the squad that won the 2008 NBA title.
