EL SEGUNDO, Calif. (AP) — The Los Angeles Lakers selected Duke power forward Ryan Kelly with the 48th pick Thursday in the NBA draft.

Kelly, 6-feet-11 and 230 pounds, averaged 12.9 points and 5.3 rebounds as a senior in 2012-13. He could give the Lakers a much-needed dimension as a perimeter shooter with the size to stretch defenses.

However, Kelly was limited to only 23 games last season because of a broken right foot that required surgery in April. He injured his foot in March 2012 and again last season.

The Lakers had only one selection after dealing their first-round pick to the Cleveland Cavaliers for point guard Ramon Sessions late in 2011-12.
