WILSONVILLE, Ore. — A Portland woman is organizing a memorial at the Wilsonville Target store where an estimated 50,000 bees died, apparently from the improper application of pesticide to trees in the parking lot.

Rozzell Medina told The Oregonian that the memorial at 2 p.m. Sunday will be an opportunity to make an ecological catastrophe seem less abstract.

Medina says on her Facebook page, the event will “memorialize these fallen lifeforms and talk about the plight of the bees and their importance to life on Earth.”
