BALTIMORE (AP) — The Baltimore Orioles have recalled right-hander Jair Jurrjens from Triple-A Norfolk and designated first baseman Travis Ishikawa for assignment.

Jurrjens was summoned Saturday to be the long man in the bullpen after Kevin Gausman pitched 4 1-3 innings on Friday night.

Manager Buck Showalter said, “I just felt like we needed some coverage in our bullpen.”

Ishikawa had two hits in 17 at-bats with Baltimore. He was not bitter. He said, “I think it might have been different if I had played a lot better, so I can’t fault them for it.”

Ishikawa said his family had just joined him in Baltimore, so instead of facing the Yankees on Sunday, he plans to visit the zoo.

There’s a chance he could be traded, waived or accept an assignment to Norfolk.
