INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Denny Hamlin was checked and cleared to drive Monday morning before taking his No. 11 car onto the 2.5-mile oval at Indianapolis for testing.

Hamlin complained of headaches following a hard crash during Sunday’s race at Kentucky. Neither Hamlin nor members of his team took questions from reporters after the test.

Nine cars — five from the Cup Series and four from the Nationwide Series — participated. All the drivers were either with Chip Ganassi’s team or Joe Gibbs’ team.

Juan Pablo Montoya, the winner of the 2000 Indianapolis 500, says he liked what his car did on the track that has traditionally been tough on NASCAR tires. Teammate Jamie McMurray said the Ganassi team learned “a lot” about setups even though it was a cool, overcast day.
