Utah Valley holds off Chicago State 76-69

OREM, Utah (AP) — Jason Johnson scored 24 points on 9-of-14 shooting and grabbed five rebounds to lead Utah Valley past Chicago State 76-69 on Saturday night.

Tied at 47 with 11:21 remaining in the game, Utah Valley (14-16, 3-5 Great West) used a 21-5 run over the next 6 minutes capped off by a Ben Aird jumper which gave the Wolverines a 68-52 lead and they never looked back.

Aird finished the night with 23 points including a 7 for 9 mark from the free-throw line and grabbed eight rebounds. Nick Thompson scored only five points for Utah Valley, but grabbed 10 rebounds and dished out seven assists.

Jamere Dismukes led Chicago State (8-21, 2-5) with 25 points and six assists. Nate Duhon had 21 points for the Cougars, which shot 50.9 percent from the field and hit nine 3-pointers.

Chicago State scored 25 points off 15 Utah Valley turnovers and outscored the Wolverines’ bench 35-9.
