LEAVENWORTH — The owner of a back country ski and snowshoe resort was killed Sunday when he was buried by a large amount of snow that fell off a tree.

Chelan County Sheriff Brian Burnett identified the victim as 65-year-old Donald Hansen, owner of Scottish Lakes High Camp.

The sheriff told KPQ that Hansen’s body was discovered by searchers Sunday night fairly close to the lodge. He had been reported missing by his wife who last saw him about 3 in the afternoon.

Burnett said Hansen may have been knocked unconscious or suffocated when he was buried by the snow.
