Central Michigan squeaks by Eastern Michigan 61-59

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. (AP) — Olivier Mbaigoto scored 14 points but none were bigger than his last two which gave Central Michigan a 61-59 victory over Eastern Michigan on Tuesday night.

The Eagles tied the score at 59 on a Glenn Bryant dunk with 1:49 remaining in the game but Olivier Mbaigoto hit the go-ahead jumper with 1:19 to play on Central Michigan’s next possession to give the Chippewas a 61-59 lead. The Eagles’ Derek Thompson missed a 3-pointer with 59 seconds left and Matt Balkema committed a turnover with 1 second remaining on the clock and Central Michigan (11-18, 4-11 Mid-American) was able to hold on.

Thompson was the leading scorer for Eastern Michigan (14-16, 7-8) with 14. Bryant finished with 13 points and seven rebounds. Daylen Harrison had 12 points and five rebounds.

Kyle Randall had 23 points and hit six 3-pointers to lead the Chippewas, which had lost 10 of their last 11 before the win over the Eagles.
