Diggins among 3 Big East unanimous 1st team picks

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — Notre Dame guard Skylar Diggins, Connecticut forward Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis and South Florida guard Andrea Smith are the unanimous selections to the All-Big East team.

They’re joined on the first team Thursday by Connecticut’s Stefanie Dolson, DePaul’s Brittany Hrynko, Georgetown’s Sugar Rodgers, Louisville’s Shoni Schimmel, Notre Dame’s Natalie Achonwa and Kayla McBride, St. John’s Nadirah McKenith and Shenneika Smith and Syracuse’s Kayla Alexander.

Carmen Tyson-Thomas of Syracuse has won the league’s Sixth Man Award.

Connecticut guard Kelly Faris is the conference’s defensive player of the year and shares the honor for most improved player with Hrynko. DePaul’s Anna Martin was given the conference’s sportsmanship award.

The conference’s player, freshman, scholar-athlete and coach of the year will be announced Friday when the Big East tournament begins at the XL Center.
