Florida Gulf Coast downs Stetson 72-58

MACON, Ga. (AP) — Sherwood Brown scored 18 points and Bernard Thompson added a double-double to lift Florida Gulf Coast past Stetson 72-58 in the semifinals of the Atlantic Sun Conference tournament Friday night.

Thompson scored 12 points and grabbed a game-high 13 boards to help Florida Gulf Coast (23-10) outrebound Stetson 42-35.

On top 40-35 with 11 minutes remaining, Florida Gulf Coast pulled away with a 10-2 run, capped by Chase Fieler’s dunk with 7:06 left to play. The Eagles led by double figures the rest of the way, and by as many as 16 points.

The Eagles shot 55.2 percent (16 of 29) compared to the Hatters’ 36.7 percent (11 of 30), in the second half.

Fieler added 11 points and Eric McKnight chipped in 10 for the Eagles.

Adam Pegg scored 17 points and Chris Perez added 15, the only two scorers for Stetson (15-16) in double figures.
