NARNI SCALO, Italy (AP) — Peter Sagan of Slovakia won the rainy third stage of the Tirreno-Adriatico in a sprint on Friday, while Mark Cavendish retained the overall lead.
Cavendish of Britain finished second and Andre Greipel of Germany was third.
Sagan clocked 5 hours, 15 minutes, 12 seconds over the rolling 118-mile leg. Cavendish and Greipel had the same time.
The fourth stage Saturday is a 107-mile route from Narni to Prati di Tivo, featuring a difficult uphill finish which favors Alberto Contador.
The weeklong race ends on Tuesday with an individual time trial in San Benedetto del Tronto.
