IPFW defeats Oakland 91-72 in Summit quarterfinals

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) — Frank Gaines scored 23 points to lead IPFW to a 91-72 victory over Oakland in the quarterfinals of the Summit League tournament Sunday night.

Luis Jacobo had 18 points and 12 rebounds and Michael Kibiloski scored 15 points for IPFW. Both contributed four 3-pointers as the fifth-seeded Mastodons (15-16) shot 63 percent overall and beat the Golden Grizzlies for the third time in 19 days and advance to play regular-season Summit champion South Dakota State (23-9) in the semifinals Monday night.

Travis Bader led the fourth-seeded Golden Grizzlies (16-16) with 18 points, but was just 3 of 12 from 3-point range.

Ryan Bass scored 16 points, Dante Williams scored 14 and Drew Valentine added 10 points for Oakland.

IPFW out-rebounded Oakland 44-26.

The Mastodons won 77-71 in Fort Wayne, Ind., on Feb. 20; that game ended Oakland’s seven-game winning streak. IPFW also won 74-72 on March 2 in Rochester, Mich.
