PORTLAND — A body found by a hiker at the bottom of a ravine in the Columbia River Gorge has been identified as that of a man suspected of smashing into a motel room and dragging his wife toward a car before a witness intervened.

A hiker found a vehicle with the body of Aaron Bryce-Dolve Griffin at about 5 p.m. Saturday at the bottom of an embankment off the East Historic Columbia River Highway.

KGW-TV reports Griffin was sought in the assault on his wife in December, when witnesses told police that Griffin used a crowbar to break into the motel room.

Once inside, he allegedly dragged her into the parking lot and toward a Dodge Durango. A witness intervened and Griffin’s wife escaped.

She suffered deep cuts and bruises.
