Letter: Attack on Stonier is unfair

The Columbian
Published: March 12, 2013, 5:00pm

The 2016 election has started already.

I recently received a scurrilous piece in the mail from something called The Reagan Fund out of Olympia that attacked Rep. Monica Stonier, D-Vancouver, for missing a vote. What the piece neglected to mention is that Stonier was ill. Perhaps she should have crawled out of her sick bed, gone to the floor of the Legislature, and coughed on her colleagues, thereby spreading her illness. But, no, she did the sensible and responsible thing, staying home to get better and to not infect others.

It’s disheartening to receive a nasty piece 20 months before the next election. It’s a symptom of our broken politics.

To make up for that attack ad, the state House Republican leadership should do the decent thing and apologize to Stonier.
