According to a few engineers, the Interstate 205 Bridge is quite adequate for light-rail crossing. The Portland MAX line could be connected with the existing airport line and perhaps follow I-205 up to the Washington State University Vancouver campus, with stops along the way.
If this is true that the I-205 Bridge is light-rail friendly, it would perhaps save expenditures and create an avenue for people to catch the MAX along the I-205 corridor from near the Portland Cascade Station to the WSU Vancouver campus area.
The new Interstate 5 Bridge construction then could be designed high enough to meet Coast Guard navigational standards and for automobile and bus crossings.
Why has this possibility been continually overlooked? Is it possible to consider the I-205 Bridge for light rail and construct the new bridge (vehicles only) for less demands and specifications?
