Teheran strikes out 7 as Braves beat Mets 2-1

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (AP) — Julio Teheran struck out seven in six innings, Chris Johnson homered and Freddie Freeman hit a tiebreaking single in the sixth inning Sunday as the Atlanta Braves beat the New York Mets 2-1.

Bidding to earn the fifth spot in the Braves’ rotation, Teheran allowed a leadoff homer to Jordany Valdespin, then gave up just two more hits. He walked two.

Johnson homered in the fourth, his third of spring training.

Jonathon Niese gave up just the one run and two hits in five innings, struck out four and walked one. Scott Rice allowed Freeman’s go-ahead hit.
