MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. (AP) — A federal appeals court has rejected an appeal by a former Central Michigan basketball player who sued after losing her scholarship under a new coach.

The court on Monday upheld a decision by a judge who dismissed the lawsuit in 2010.

Brooke Heike (HIGH’-kee) lost her scholarship after her 2007-08 sophomore season, her first under coach Sue Guevara. CMU says it was because of her attitude and an unwillingness to work hard.

Heike said she believes she fell out of favor partly because she’s heterosexual. The school denied any discrimination.

The 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals court says Heike got a fair hearing during the campus appeals process. The court says disappointment with a coach’s decision doesn’t mean there’s a remedy in federal court.
