BURIEN — A King County sheriff’s spokeswoman says a 14-year-old girl was shot in the torso with a small-caliber bullet or pellet as she walked home from school with friends in a south Seattle suburb.

Sgt. Cindi West said the eighth grader was in good condition Monday night. She was taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle to have the object removed.

West said the girl was walking home Monday afternoon from St. Francis of Assisi School in Burien when she heard a “pop” and realized she had been shot.

The school is cautioning parents to be sure their children are driven to and from school for the time being.

Deputies are investigating.
