SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (AP) — Eric Stults pitched six solid innings for his best outing of spring training and hit a two-run single, leading the San Diego Padres to a 6-2 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Tuesday.

Stults, a left-hander who is projected for a spot in the Padres’ rotation, gave up four hits. He yielded just one hit in the first four innings before the Diamondbacks rallied in the fifth.

Stults entered with a 10.29 ERA in his previous four spring training appearances.

Yonder Alonso homered for the third time in his last six games, a solo shot in the fourth for the Padres.

Diamondbacks closer J.J. Putz allowed a run and a hit in the first inning.
