INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Dan Gavitt is ready to start on the hardest part of his new job — actually running the NCAA tournament.

Gavitt is no newcomer to putting on a good show. He ran the Big East men’s tourney for the past seven years, ran the athletic department at Bryant University, even ran his own sports marketing firm before being hired in June as the NCAA’s executive vice president for men’s basketball championships.

But it’s the first time the son of Big East founder and longtime commissioner Dave Gavitt has gotten an inside look behind the closed doors — and he knows it certainly won’t be easy.

Following Wednesday night’s final two first-round games, he’ll head to Atlanta where he’ll monitor all 48 games over the next four days.
