PLANICA, Slovenia (AP) — Jurij Tepes of Slovenia earned his first individual ski jump World Cup victory in the final event of the season Sunday, winning a ski flying competition in front of a home crowd.

Tepes landed jumps of 217 and 214 meters for a total of 425.5 points, beating Rune Velta of Norway by 1.8 points. Another Slovenian, Peter Prevc, was three points back in third.

Tepes was part of Slovenia’s winning foursome in Saturday’s team event but had only one previous individual podium finish on the World Cup, coming in third in another ski flying event in Harrachov, Czech Republic, in February.

Overall World Cup winner Gregor Schlierenzauer was 11th on Sunday.
