EUGENE, Ore. — A federal judge has blocked a proposed logging project on the Willamette National Forest, saying the government must first do an environmental impact statement.
Two environmental groups challenged the 2,100-acre Goose Project.
A representative told the Eugene Register-Guard that the ruling means residents who didn’t hear about the sale until last spring will have a chance to have their objections heard.
Judge Ann Aiken ruled that the U.S. Forest Service erred in doing an analysis that’s less demanding than an environmental impact statement.
She said the work would reduce a potential wilderness area and include eight miles of temporary roads and a mile of permanent road.
