FT. MYERS, Fla. (AP) — The Minnesota Twins have reassigned World Baseball Classic star Samuel Deduno to minor league camp.

The Dominican right-hander was a breakout star in the tournament last month, beating the United States and Puerto Rico in back-to-back starts to lead his team to the championship. He returned to Twins camp with a solid chance of making the rotation when the season began thanks to an injury to Scott Diamond. But Deduno has battled a groin injury and will start the year at Triple-A Rochester. He only pitched one inning in spring training this season.

The Twins also reassigned right-hander P.J. Walters. He was a non-roster invitee who put together a strong spring. Walters went 3-0 in six games with a 2.08 ERA.
