PORTLAND — An experienced hiker is believed missing on Mount Hood.

The Clackamas County sheriff’s office identified her Friday as 23-year-old Mary Owen.

It said she’d previously hiked the length of the Pacific Crest Trail.

Newberg police reported her missing. She was last heard from Sunday when she emailed a friend that she was going to Mount Hood.

Her SUV was found Thursday night in the parking lot of Timberline Lodge. Deputies say it appeared to have been there for some time, and Owen’s backpack was inside. Deputies think she went off hiking by herself and may be short of supplies.

The sheriff’s office says searchers were out Friday and appealed for public help.

The Clackamas County sheriff’s office is at 503-655-8211. Sgt. Sean Collinson is at seancol@co.clackamas.or.us.
