The Portland Veterans Affairs Medical Center was this week made a recipient of the Secretary of Veteran Affairs Robert W. Carey Performance Excellence Award.

The annual award recognizes organizations within the Department of Veteran Affairs that have implemented management approaches that result in sustained high levels of performance and service to veterans, according to a VA news release.

The Portland center is one of three VA medical centers selected nationally to receive the award.

The Portland VA Medical Center consists of the main tertiary care medical center near downtown Portland, a Vancouver campus, a community resource and referral center in Portland and eight community outpatient clinics across Oregon. The center serves more than 80,000 veterans in Oregon and Southwest Washington.
