Five people are displaced after a fire burned a portion of their South Hill home Thursday.
The fire is believed to have started around 2:20 p.m. in the property’s back yard along the 1800 block of E. 8th Avenue. It spread to the exterior walls of the home and portions of the attic, Spokane Fire Battalion Chief Steve Sabo said.
One person was home when the fire started, he added, but that person got out and there were no injuries.
Crews rescued three dogs and a 10-year-old cat named Chief, who required an oxygen mask made especially for pets. Firefighters found him hiding in the basement.
