NEW YORK (AP) — The Kentucky Derby television coverage has matched its highest preliminary rating in 21 years.

The race portion from 6-7 p.m. EDT on Saturday on NBC drew a 10.4 overnight rating and 23 share. The network said Sunday that was up 16 percent from last year and tied 2010 for the best rating since a 10.9 in 1992.

Favorite Orb came back to win a race that had several jockeys trying to make history.

Ratings represent the percentage of all homes with televisions tuned to a program. Shares represent the percentage of all homes with TVs in use at the time. Overnight ratings measure the country’s largest markets.
