DENVER (AP) — Mariano Rivera won’t shy away from shagging fly balls on the outfield grass in Kansas City even after tearing the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee a year ago at that park.

The New York Yankees closer plans to return to the field where he was hurt when the team plays in Kansas City this weekend.

Rivera said before the Yankees played Colorado on Wednesday that he’s simply “going to do what I love to do.” And he enjoys the camaraderie of chasing down fly balls during batting practice before a game.

Rivera caught his leg on the field in Kansas City last May and his knee buckled. He fell into the outfield wall and to the ground, grimacing in pain.
