PORTLAND — The Tibetan Buddhist spiritual leader the Dalai Lama is in Portland for speeches Thursday and Saturday on the environment. He’s also delivering a public lecture Friday at the University of Oregon in Eugene.

The visit is hosted by Maitripa College, a Buddhist institution in southeast Portland. School president and professor Yangsi Rinpoche says he’s been inviting the Dalai Lama for years.

The 77-year-old won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1989.
