Volcanoes tops Sabres for 5th straight win

Paul Hafford scored a team-high 29 points as the Vancouver Volcanoes topped the Salem Sabres 120-113 in International Basketball League action Friday at the O’Connell Center.

It was Vancouver’s fifth consecutive victory and second consecutive over the Salem squad.

Hafford, who scored 34 against Salem on Sunday, made 10 of 20 shots with five 3-pointers.

Chehales Tapscott had 21 points and 15 rebounds for Vancouver (5-1), Alex Hartman had 24 points, Mike Ward scored 19, and Josh Tarver 12 points and eight rebounds.

Salem’s Cory Largent led all scorers with 31 points.

Vancouver led by as much as 19 points at 111-92.

The Volcanoes face the Portland Chinooks (0-2) at 7:30 p.m. today at the Eastmoreland Courts at the Eastmoreland Racquet Club.
