The world’s largest single-day food drive was Saturday, and Vancouver letter carrier Jeff Lovell was part of the action. When Lovell made his Saturday morning mail rounds on the west side of town, he also collected residents’ food donations for the National Association of Letter Carriers Food Drive. Since the annual food drive began in 1993, it has brought in over 1 billion pounds of food; last year the drive returned about 120,000 pounds of food to the Clark County Food Bank. The second Saturday in May was chosen for the food drive because late spring is when food banks typically have run through all the donations they received during the winter holidays.
