A Vancouver woman was cited for second-degree negligent driving after police said she fell asleep at the wheel during rush hour Monday morning.

Jenna V. Richardson, 28, was driving her 2003 Volkswagen Beetle along Highway 14 when she fell asleep, drove off the road and struck a tree, according to the Washington State Patrol.

The accident occurred just before 8 a.m. as she was driving eastbound near Milepost 7, which is between Interstate 205 and Southeast 164th Avenue.

She was transported to PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center, where she was treated for undisclosed injuries, then released.
