TACOMA — The Washington State Transportation Commission approved a pair of increases Monday for the Tacoma Narrows Bridge toll.

The toll will go up 25 cents on July 1 and another quarter on July 1, 2014.

The Kitsap Sun reports commissioners agreed the increase is needed to fund bond payments and maintenance on the $729 million bridge.

Rates now are $4 for drivers with automatic transponders, $5 at toll booths and $6 for pay-by-mail.
