Silverette holds on to win Monmouth Park feature

OCEANPORT, N.J. (AP) — Silverette took the lead near the stretch and held on to win the $60,000 Red Cross Stakes at Monmouth Park on Monday, beating Angel’s Glory by a length.

Trained by Dale Romans and ridden by Paco Lopez, the 4-year-old filly ran the six furlongs over a fast track in 1:09 3/5 and returned $6.80, $3.80 and $2.40. It was the fourth win in eight career starts for Silverette, who has earned $198,802.

Angel’s Glory paid $5.60 and $3.40. Betting favorite Holiday Soiree was a half-length back in third and paid $2.10.

Lopez also captured the co-feature, riding Rusty Slipper to a three-quarter length win in the $60,000 Little Silver Stakes. The 3-year-old covered the mile over a firm turf course in 1:35 1/5 and paid $22.40, $9.80 and $7.60.
