Papermaker Preschool opens enrollment

The Papermaker Preschool, located at Camas High School, has open enrollment for children who are 4 by Aug. 31. The morning session runs from 8:45 to 11:15 a.m., and the afternoon session runs from 12:45 to 3:15 p.m. The full-time preschool hours are 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Part-time tuition is $230 per month, and full time tuition is $690 per month (nine-hour maximum per day). The preschool follows the Camas School District calendar.

Sullivan graduates from University of Portland

Devon Sullivan of Washougal graduated Magna Cum Laude Sunday, May 5, from the University of Portland with a bachelor of science degree in civil engineering.

He will be pursuing his master’s degree at the University of California, Berkeley, in the structural engineering and mechanics of materials program.

Camas Grad Night still has spots open

The Camas Grad Night “drug-and-alcohol-free” party will be held Friday, June 14 immediately following the Camas High School graduation. This event is open to all 2013 graduates from Camas and Hayes Freedom high schools, as well as home school students.

Registration forms are available at both high schools in the main office and on the Camas High School website under “students.” The price is $65 until June 1.

McTeacher’s Night to benefit Hathaway

The Camas McDonalds, 3354 N.E. Third Ave., is hosting a McTeacher’s Night for Hathaway Elementary on Wednesday, June 5 from 5 to 7 p.m. During this time, Hathaway will receive 20 percent of every sale made, both in store and drive-thru.

Cancer survivors to shave heads at WHS June 9

Sammy Mederos, a Cape Horn-Skye third-grader, and Mary LaFrance, a Washougal School District employee, will both shave their heads to benefit an organization dedicated to eradicating cancer.

The two are cancer survivors. Mederos had leukemia as a kindergartner and LaFrance beat breast cancer.

They, along with others in the Washougal community, will host the St. Baldrick’s Foundation event at noon Sunday, June 9, in the Washougal High School commons, 1201 39th St.

Mederos and LaFrance will be joined by Washougal Mayor Sean Guard, a Clark County Sheriff’s Office deputy and a 6-year-old Vancouver boy who is also a cancer survivor.

Hite named ‘Phoenix on Fire’

The May student of the month at Excelsior High School is Desirae Hite.

She has overcome several challenges and will be graduating in June, and plans to attend college.

Students are selected for Phoenix on Fire based on being inspiring, responsible and respectful; and having great attendance, an excellent work ethic and a positive attitude.

Pancake breakfast, rummage sale set Saturday

There will be a pancake breakfast and rummage sale to benefit the students of Mt. Pleasant School, 152 Marble Road, Washougal, on Saturday, June 1.

The pancake breakfast will be served from 8 to 11 a.m., while the rummage sale will run from 8 to 4 p.m.

The cost for breakfast is $5 per person or $15 for a family of four.

McCaughan named to dean’s list at Harding

Loryn McCaughan of Camas has been named to the dean’s list at Harding University in Searcy, Ark., for spring semester.

To be named to the list, students must earn at least a 3.65 GPA and take 12 credit hours.

Local student wins essay contest

Felecia Clowers is the first-place winner in the Clark Public Utilities “Stream Team” Watershed Reflections writing contest.

Entries were submitted from students all over Clark County.

Clowers is a student at Excelsior High School in Washougal.

Robinson graduates from Marylhust

David Robinson of Camas has earned a master of business administration from Marylhust University.

Commencement ceremonies will be held Saturday, June 15.

C-W students earn degrees from OSU

Several locals will graduate from Oregon State University in Corvallis on Saturday, June 15.

They include the following students.

Camas: Jason R. Casey, master of science, nuclear engineering; Bradley P. Gerbing, B.S., finance; Mark A. Price, B.S., digital communication arts; Ashley L. Theeler, bachelor of arts, speech communication.

Washougal: Sara J. Natwick, doctor of pharmacy.
