LAS VEGAS (AP) — City officials and Las Vegas Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon organizers are calling a date shift to Nov. 17 a chance to raise the profile of the race and remove a weekend conflict with another big event in town.

Las Vegas Mayor Carolyn Goodman and Competitor Group executive Adam Zocks plan to talk Thursday at the Mirage Hotel & Casino about the new date, course reconfigurations and the economic value of the marathon.

The race was held last year on the first Sunday in December.

But that conflicts with the 10-day National Finals Rodeo at the Thomas & Mack arena.

The nighttime marathon and half-marathon drew more than 30,000 entrants in 2012 from the U.S. and 40 countries.

Runners start and finish on the neon-lit Las Vegas Strip.
