CORVALLIS, Ore. (AP) — As the regular season wound to a close, Oregon State coach Pat Casey reflected on how well the Beavers had done, especially after the pitching staff was hit by injuries to start the season.

Oregon State already figured to be without sophomore lefthander Jace Fry because of Tommy John surgery last June. Then junior Ben Wetzler pulled a muscle in his back and senior Taylor Starr had a sore shoulder. Wetzler and Starr were projected to be half of the Beavers’ starting staff.

But Oregon State (45-10) jumped out to a 15-0 start and rode that early success to the Pac-12 title. This weekend, the Beavers host an NCAA regional to kick off the postseason.
