Letter: Enough waiting, build a bridge

The Columbian
Published: May 29, 2013, 5:00pm

The I-5 bridge over Skagit River falling should be a wake-up call for all residents of Southwest Washington. This should settle the ridiculous assertion that a third bridge should be built.

We need to replace the existing I-5 Columbia River bridge now.

The Columbia River Crossing critics mislead and obfuscate the facts of the need for replacement. Local leaders like Clark County Commissioner David Madore, state Sen. Don Benton, R-Vancouver, and state Sen. Ann Rivers, R-La Center, act irresponsibly, placing the public at risk for delaying replacing this aging bridge.

The issue of light rail was long ago decided by both the numerous agencies and 10 years of hearings. To proceed otherwise is a betrayal of the public’s trust in our elected officials.
